I hope you’re doing well.
Today I did something that would break the heart of any makeup lover. I went through my makeup collection and threw out EVERYTHING that I had not used in 12 months or longer, and tossed also out everything that I couldn’t see myself using at least once a week. That includes luxury brands.
Eyeshadow palettes that I wouldn’t use regularly got tossed regardless of how pretty the colors were. Even if blushes were pretty, they got tossed if they weren’t used regularly. Lip products that didn’t get used weekly got tossed. Eye products that creased regardless of being new got tossed. Colors that I don’t like anymore got tossed.
I am extremely proud of myself for FINALLY being able to let go of all of these items regardless of the name or price. On top of tossing out prestige products, I also threw out products that are basically like new. Some actually haven’t even been used – only swatched. A lot of the other items are items that I hoarded (thinking I would love them forever) without realizing that the quality would change as they sat in my drawers for months or even years.
During the middle of the year, I did an inventory clean out and literally tossed out two kitchen sized trash bags full of makeup, old hair products, and old body products. Back then, I cleaned out my stash while still keeping brands and prices in mind. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised to see that six months later, I managed to pull a medium sized gift bag full of cosmetics that I STILL didn’t end up using. I hope that this is the last time I fill up a bag with makeup I won’t use.
How do I feel now that this ordeal is over? Lighter. Refreshed. Exhilarated. I feel like a girl who has just been freed from a terrible relationship. Letting go is a FANTASTIC feeling.
As of right now, I have dwindled my collection down to 4 eyeshadow palettes, 5 blushes, 3 highlighters, 1 drawer of lippies, and 2 drawers for eye products (1 for liners/brows and 1 for bases/cream shadows/primers/single shadows).
Now, onto the photos!
I hope it motivates you to let go of makeup that has been sitting in your drawers for years.
I actually didn’t end up throwing away about 70% of this makeup! I found a local shelter that accepted used makeup and I was able to give almost everything but mascaras, older lippies, and some miscellaneous products that I felt for unsafe for others to use.
All bagged up and ready to go! 🙂
