To kick off the new year, Ipsy sent out a bag that featured majority skin care products. The theme is “19 Reasons” – the 19 reasons are the 19 brands that we could potentially hope to see in our glam bags.
I absolutely LOVED my bag this month. I feel bad for Ipsy because a lot of people were unhappy that the bag wasn’t packed with makeup but I was ecstatic about it. I think that the key to beauty is health and I think that Ipsy picked the perfect way to start off the new year. This was the first Ipsy bag where I loved every single product/variation (minus the Yaby foundation), which made it impossible for Ipsy to give me a disappointing bag. I was excited to potentially try everything. I was very happy to see many new brands being distributed in the bags instead of seeing repeats. No surprise that the cosmetic products are repeat brands but at least it’s not J.Cat Beauty or Nyx.
The ONLY thing I disliked this month was the bag itself. The bag is cute but it smells strongly of a brand new vinyl shower curtain (not a big deal). The bag is technically a freebie plus it’s an easy fix.
What I received in my bag:
- Mica Beauty Tinted Lip Balm in Fiesta – $18.75
- Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads x4 – Unknown value; lets go with $0.25 each
- Nourish Organic Moisturizing Face Lotion – $6.47
- Elizabeth Mott’s Smooth Shadow Pencil in Pearl – $7.00
- Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask – $4.95
- Overall value: Approximately $38.17
Mica Beauty Tinted Lip Balm
This lip balm took me by surprise. I was expecting something more similar to MAC’s Tendertone Lip Balm or e.l.f’s Studio Conditioning Lip Balm but this product was more of a balm stain. There is nothing conditioning or moisturizing about this product. My biggest issue with this product is the fact that it is in a pot without a brush. If I could compare it to a product, it would be like Cailyn Cosmetics Tinted Lip Balm. In fact, it might be the exact same product with a different label and different price. On the bright side, the color is very saturated and the stain is long-lasting. In the photo, I wiped my finger off after about 15 seconds of the product being on and the photo shows the resulting stain. I was incredibly pleased with the two colors being sent out (Natural or Fiesta). Both colors looked like they would be extremely flattering on almost any skin tone.
Overall, this product is a hit for me. I was excited to try it, I like the color, and I’m glad that I have it. However, I wouldn’t buy this product nor do I recommend anybody buy it no matter how cheap you can find it. There are too many affordable lip products that stain AND moisturize unlike this product.
Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads
I was actually thrilled to find out that I was receiving the Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads. I’m a huge fan of medicated blemish pads (Noxzema, Stridex, OXY) so I expected to like this product. To be perfectly honest, 4 pads isn’t enough for me to notice any major changes using this product but I still enjoyed having them. Would I purchase these on their own? Heck no. I think it’s a better deal to buy a container of medicated pads (I highly recommend OXY for intense breakouts) and an oil-free brightening moisturizer to help with blemishes + fade marks.
Nourish Organic Moisturizing Face Lotion
I am beyond happy to have a mini sized facial lotion in this month’s Ipsy bag. This lotion smells decent for an organic lotion and it feels great on my oily skin. The smell is awkwardly herbal and it’s almost like Nourish tried to cover the scent up by adding orange blossom fragrance. I actually appreciate that because I use The Body Shop’s Nutriganics Day Cream and it smells very herbally with nothing to tone the scent down. I almost didn’t give TBS product a chance because I hated the herbal scent (but I continued to try it because I wanted a natural skin care product). It took me 2 tubes before I got used to the herbal smell. I’m happy to report that I have used this product under my makeup several times and have not noticed an excess of oil on my face nor has this done anything negative to my skin. I absolutely love this product and I would definitely consider buying this the next time I am in the market for a face lotion.
Elizabeth Mott Creamy Eye Shadow Pencil in Pearl
When I first saw this product in my bag, I didn’t expect to like it. It looks like an eyeliner pencil more-so than it does a shadow stick. The color is a champagne nude with glitter chunks that reflect similar colors as a pearl. Despite there being glitter, this color looks amazing on the eyes. The glitter doesn’t fall off after the product dries nor does it look like major glitter on the eyes. I was also pleased with how long this product lasts once it sets. It did not go anywhere no matter how hard I tried to rub it off. This pencil also sharpens like a dream.
This product is another hit for me. I would actually consider purchasing this product if it wasn’t Elizabeth Mott brand. Her products are great but I dislike that she only releases new products after they are sent via Ipsy; and she only sells makeup products that have been distributed through Ipsy first.
Briogeo Repair, Don’t Despair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
I was happy to receive this product because I LOVE trying anything that will help keep my hair healthy. There’s enough product for me to use the mask twice which I think is a very generous size. Even if the product had only one use in it, I would have been happy because I can usually tell if I’ll like a hair product after one use. After using this hair mask, I was not impressed with the results. My hair didn’t feel or look any different after I rinsed the hair mask out. I definitely wouldn’t buy the full size. But after I use the rest of the product, I can re-use the jar for homemade hair masks, scrubs, or to empty out my foil packet duplicates into.
