The theme for this month’s ipsy bag was Fresh Picks. I’m honestly not sure what makes the items “fresh picks” since I can’t figure out what the items have in common. Not all of the brands are natural, there aren’t only skin care products, and they’re not all cruelty free brands either. Regardless, I was happy with my ipsy bag. It could have been better but it could have also been worse. I definitely feel like it was $10 well spent and that’s all that matters.
My biggest issue with this month’s bag is the HUGE number of potential products that people could have received (the link directs you to The Charming Cheshire’s blog). I hate when there are a lot of product variations for bags. No matter how much ipsy claims that bags are customized, I truly believed that they are, at best, slightly customized. I feel like each region gets specific pre-made bags sent and the “customization” is simply getting the most appropriate bag in that region to suit my profile. I highly doubt ipsy selects preferred items for each individual. I really liked the actual bag that the products came in. The print is very appropriately matched to the theme for the month with green leaves on a cream background. The bag material is quite nice. It feels like it’s a bag made from 100% recycled material though I highly doubt that it is. But my reason for liking the bag is because I like the thought of being able to toss it in the wash with my clothes instead of hand washing the bag.
My bag consisted of:
- Crown Brush Pro Blending Fluff Brush – $5.49 (current selling price)
- Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF 50 Sunscreen – $2.17 one ounce sample
- Pacifica Eyeshadow Duo #2 in Moonbeam & Unicorn – $4.00
- Pur~lisse Pur~Moist Hydra Balance Moisturizer – $16.50 half ounce sample
- Nailtini Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer in Champagne – $13.00
- Total value: $41.16
Crown Brush Pro Blending Fluff Brush
I wasn’t sure how I felt about getting this item when I saw it posted in my glam room. Out of all of the potential items that I could have gotten instead of this product, this is my second to least liked. The product I disliked the most was the Classic Blender Brush. After actually receiving this item, I disliked this product even more. While the bristles are densely packed and the brush quality appears to be nice, the bristles on the brush were too rough for my liking. This product was a fail for me.
Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF 50 Sunscreen
This sunscreen is actually made by Coola which is quite an expensive brand. The size is very generous especially in comparison to the last Coola sample that we received. While Coola is a high end brand for sun care, I already know I won’t repurchase. Coola’s sunscreens always make my skin tingle and never in a good way. I also really dislike the scent. The scent of this sunscreen is strongly scented of generic summer (tropical coconut) which I think makes the smell of sunscreen even stronger. The feel of this sunscreen is surprisingly smooth and lightweight. I do think others may like it. I don’t hate this product but I already have a sunblock that works well for me (Neutrogena brand 110+++ SPF).
Pacifica Eyeshadow Duo in #2 Unicorn & Moonbeam
I’m a HUGE fan of Pacifica body care products so I was jumping up and down at the thought of getting this product. The purple shade looked very dark at first but it applies very sheer. It’s heavily swatched in the photo above. The lighter shade is a gold-cream with chunky gold glitter. When I swatched it, the first thing I thought of was e.l.f’s Gotta Glow Studio Blush (which also happens to be a Nars Albatross dupe). After I got over the fact that the two shadows combined together in an eye look wouldn’t work for me, I started to really like the shadows. They work best when applied with the finger as opposed to using a brush. Even if I didn’t end up liking the shadows (I honestly didn’t expect to), I was really glad that I got the opportunity to try Pacifica makeup. Even though I am happy with the product, I do think that it lacks the quality that it should have considering the price of Pacifia’s makeup line.
Pur~lisse Pur~Moist Hydra Balance Moisturizer
I have oily skin and I have it marked on my profile. However, I was still sent a moisturizer that caters to dry/normal skin. This is why I am under the impression that ipsy does not customize bags but rather chooses the best bag for me based off of the bags sent in my region. The sample is great but the moisturizer is going to have to be used as a night cream. It’s too heavy for me to use in the day.
Nailtini Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer in Champagne
This is my favorite product out of the entire bag. The color that I received is such a beautiful rose-coppery-gold shade. It looks great on my skin and I’d imagine anybody who has tanned skin would appreciate the color as well. It makes my darker skin look incredibly radiant and glowy. I wasn’t excited about any of the colors based off of the pictures on ipsy’s site but the color in real life is incredibly flattering. Nailtini and Zoya polishes are probably my favorite out of all of the polishes that ipsy has sent out. I wouldn’t mind if ipsy decided to send subscribers every shade of polish that Nailtini carries.
