It’s been quite a while since I’ve made a review post on one of my ipsy bags. Over the past few months, I’ve been terribly disappointed with the company. My bags have been arriving during the 4th week of each month and the items that I receive are usually my last picks out of all of the choices. This month is no exception. However, this month I received my bag in a timely manner so I’m able to review the bag while the ipsy brand sales are still available.
This month’s theme is Beauty Candy. The bag that we received this month is suuuuper cute! It’s very durable, the color is beautiful, the material is very nice, and the bag looks like a chocolate bar. I think I like the bag more than I like the actual items this month, haha.
At this point in time, I’m just over ipsy. I’m mainly keeping my subscription to see if there will be anything special for ipsy’s anniversary or for Christmas. Last year’s anniversary bag had 6 amazing items so I’m curious to see if something similar will happen this year. After the holidays are over, I’m pretty sure I’ll be unsubscribing from ipsy for good.
The items that I received this month are:
- Figs & Rouge Mango Mandarin Hand Cream 20mL – $6.56 value
- H2O Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment 10mL – $7.20 value
- NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara full size – $4.99 value
- Skyn Iceland Mini Glacial Cleansing Cloths 10 count – $5.00 value
- Starlooks Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure deluxe size- unknown value; lets go with $4.00 since that’s what everybody on the internet is valuing this as
- Total: $27.75
Figs & Rouge Hand Cream in Mango Mandarin
While I enjoy the actual hand cream, I don’t think it’s anything special. The formula is very nice because the lotion absorbs very quickly while leaving your hands grease free and moisturized. I don’t consider this product to be a hand cream because it’s very lightweight and hydrates short-term. It reminds me a lot of my Suave Skin Solutions Lotion. This sample is just “meh”. It’s nothing special but it’s something that I will happily use up.
H2O Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment
This product came in an adorable 0.5oz jar which is the same size as a standard eye cream. I have tried this product several times and I would consider this to be a day moisturizer. The product is a blue gel that easily applies to the face without leaving any stickiness behind and it feels very lightweight. My only issue with this product is the scent. It smells like a bathroom cleaner. Fortunately the smell dissipates shortly after the product is applied.
NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara
Normally I enjoy mascara samples but I was really, really disappointed with this mascara. Not only is this a cheap mascara but it’s one that I could find at almost any store. On top of that, this mascara performed terribly on my lashes. It made my lashes look clumpy and it was very time consuming trying to make my lashes look presentable.
Skyn Iceland Mini Glacial Cleansing Cloths
I was pretty darn excited to see that I had received a Skyn Iceland product and I couldn’t wait to give the product a try. Unfortunately, this product didn’t work for me. It’s such a bummer because this product does a great job at removing makeup from my face but it burns my eyes REALLY badly. I wear a lot of eye makeup so these wipes are pretty much useless for me since I can’t safely use it around my eye area. I would like to mention that these cleansing cloths are the most effective wipes I have ever used for getting makeup off my face. If they didn’t burn my eyes, I would probably buy the full sized product.
*the photo is of the makeup that the wipes continued to remove even after I had washed my face with a cleansing oil. These wipes seriously get EVERYTHING.
Starlooks Lip Gloss in Guilty Pleasure
This is the product that I was least excited about but somehow it ended up being my favorite item in my ipsy bag. The gloss itself is a very pretty pink shade that I think would be universally flattering. It has a decent amount of pigmentation but it’s sheer enough that it works with the color of my natural lips. My skin tone is medium-deep and I find this gloss to be the perfect nude shade. The consistency is very thick but the gloss is non-sticky and it goes on very, very smoothly. Right off the bat, I can already tell you that Nyx Butter Glosses are a dupe for the Starlooks Lip Gloss. They have a similar consistency, they feel similar on the lips, and they both smell like a vanilla pastry. However, I think that the Starlooks gloss is better because it applies evenly and I feel that Nyx Butter Glosses apply streaky.
I stopped Ipsy this past February (January’s really was just terrible) because they have more sucky bags than good ones! And after I stop getting them they have great bags! My friend suggested trying another service but I’m not sure which one to try out.
I’ve quit ipsy before and came back because I felt the same way! Haha. I recently subscribed to Birchbox and I’m actually liking it more than ipsy. The samples aren’t as nicely sized but they are higher end and the point system is amazing. I’ve had it three months and I’ve already accumulated $30 worth of points to spend in the shop. After just 2 months of birchbox, without even trying, you get $10 in points which I think is pretty darn great ;D
That does sound good!!! I may check it out!
