I couldn’t resist buying this little palette because it made me think of the Lorac Pro To Go Palette (though this is not a dupe for it). I originally bought this compact palette so I could completely depot it and add my own products into it. The palette is not the best but I do think it will be a good palette when I’m done customizing it.
The top palette is really nice as is. The second palette is devoted to the lip products. However, there is an empty section near the top so the mini mascara can fit into the third palette while still allowing the whole compact to close. I think it’s a waste of space. The third palette is dedicated to the blushes, a face brush (garbage), and the mascara. I wish that the mascara wasn’t included in the set because it takes up a large chunk of the palette. I would rather there have been a lip liner in the middle palette where the “cut out” is for the mascara, and then the bottom palette to contain something like a bronzer/highlight in the portion where the face brush is held, and then an eyeliner where the mascara is.
The mascara section is really annoying. It’s the biggest flaw and it’s the reason I wouldn’t re-purchase this product. The mascara isn’t a good product on its own and travel sized mascaras from other brands won’t fit to replace the e.l.f mascara. There is too much wasted space because of the mascara.
Buy it or avoid it: I’m honestly undecided. The palette as it comes is a no-go but it can easily be transformed to be a great palette. If you get this for $5.00-6.00, I think it’ll be worth it to depot and press your own shadows/blushes/lipsticks into the pans.
Functionality: It’s pretty nice. The sections of the palette stay where you put them. They won’t fall back down if you’re using a different section of the compact. I also love the “big” mirror that is included.
Size: About the size of a credit card.
Color selection: Honestly, I don’t like the colors chosen for this palette. In the top palette, I would have preferred two highlight shades, two brown shades, a black shade, and 5 pops of color. Instead there are 2 shades of dark brown, 2 shades of blue, 2 shades of green, 2 shades of pink, 1 gold, and 1 matte cream color. For a Go Palette, natural colors should have been the way to go. I actually do like the color selection for the lip products. The third palette is a bit of a downer as well. The first blush color is like a really light bronzer/blush that may look good on really light skin, the second blush is red and it is incredibly pigmented and hard to blend, and the last color is a peachy colored blush. Not quite sure why there aren’t universal shades of blush in this compact since e.l.f has plenty of good blush shades.
Quality: The quality of the eye shadows is hit or miss. They’re soft but they’re chalky. They’ll need a bit of work to get blended out. Some are nicely pigmented while others aren’t. The lip products are really nice. They’re more like liquid lipsticks as opposed to lip glosses. The color selection may look strange but they can be mixed into the perfect shades. The blushes are okay but the colors chosen are lousy. The face brush is terrible, the lip brush is okay, and the dual-ended applicator is a standard with eye shadows. Meh.
My overall rating: 6/10.
